Gionee’s entry into the Indian smartphone market was very quiet and one that involved the tried and tested method 360-degree marketing including TVCs, hiring Bollywood personalities, print ads on popular newspapers and online marketing. Being a Chinese smartphone brand, Gionee was never looked upon as a threat by its contemporaries like Xiaomi or Asus. But slowly and steadily, things have started to change for this Chinese brand as it looks forward towards making better smartphones with powerful specs and decent price.
In a market like that of India, that is already overcrowded by many Chinese smartphone brands with Xiaomi and Lenovo taking the biggest honors as of now, the fight for survival becomes more difficult for brands like Gionee who refuse to adopt a hyper-publicity model to sell its smartphones. Thus, only time will tell that how successful does Gionee become in one world’s fastest growing economy.
Of recent, Gionee has launched many smartphones that are although well received by the general public and smartphone pundits, have not really been able to garner much attention. So, this time Gionee came up with a new smartphone called Gionee A1. Marketed as a selfie-centric smartphone, Gionee A1 is available exclusively on Amazon for a price of Rs. 19999. Now the question is, do the phone’s specs and features justify the price amount or not? Let’s check it out.
The build quality of Gionee A1 is just like any other smartphone available in this price range. It comes with a metal body that has aluminum casing at the back which reflects quite a bit of elegance.
Gionee’s A1 comes with a 5.5-inch FHD IPS 2.5D curved edge capacitive touchscreen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and 401 ppi pixel density. Although, there is not much to talk about anything special related to the display quality, but overall it is good enough to give you a good viewing experience with colors coming out sharp and vibrant. The 13 mp rear camera too is not bad either.
A massive 4010mAH lithium-polymer battery powers Gionee A1 for a full day with just a single charge.
In spite of having a 2GHz MT6755 MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor along with 4GB RAM, Gionee’s A1 still disappoints me for the simple fact that it could have easily afforded a Snapdragon 652 or 625 processor at this price range. But then, Mediatek’s Helio processors are not bad either.
Being a selfie-centric smartphone, Gionee A1 comes with a massive 16 mp front camera that gives classic and beautiful selfies. The best thing about A1’s front camera is its ability to effortlessly click marvelous selfies that even phones available at a price range higher than this fail to do.
Other than the above features, Gionee A1 comes with 64 GB internal storage, a fingerprint scanner and runs surprisingly on Android Nougat 7.0.
Very difficult to decide at once. So for all those who are willing to try a new smartphone with impressive features and decent price, Gionee’s A1 can definitely be amongst your options.
