Just as the people of India were about to forget about Nokia completely, the Finnish smartphone brand made a great comeback to the country and that too with 3 different phones belonging to 3 completely different price segments.
What was really smart on the part of Nokia was to implement a totally different marketing strategy to announce its comeback. It used its vintage 3310 model and revived it with a few upgradations and launched it in the Indian market. The overwhelming feeling of Nostalgia amongst the Indian smartphone users on seeing the phone was enough for Nokia to understand that the time is right to make a grand comeback in the Indian market. And thus, what followed was the launch of Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. The upfront pricing strategy of the phones was a clear cut statement from Nokia that it is not going to do a Xiaomi and would rather carve its path towards success and excellence. After all, Nokia is a brand that comes in the category that includes the likes of Samsung, LG, HTC, and Apple.
In my previous article, I reviewed Nokia 3, which is the cheapest amongst all the 3 phones launched by Nokia in India. In this article, I am going to review the mid-range Nokia 5. Mid-range phones, of late, have become very popular amongst Indian consumers since they provide great value for money. The current undisputed champion amongst the mid-range segment phones in India is clearly the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 followed by Lenovo K6 Power and Motorola's Moto G5 Plus.
Now coming back to Nokia 5. although the specs of the phone are not great enough to impress you, they do make up for a decent phone. so let's review the specs one by one
Unlike the Nokia 3, that has a plastic body, Nokia 5 comes with a full metal body along with a front-placed fingerprint scanner.
Nokia 5 has a compact 5.2-inch 720p display with a PPI of 282 and is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass.
With 2 GB of RAM and Adreno 505 GPU, Nokia 5 comes with an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz.
The Nokia 5 has a 13-megapixel rear camera which is pretty common in phones falling under the Sub-15000 segment along with f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus, and dual-LED flash and is capable of recording 1080p videos. On the front, the Nokia 5 comes with an 8-megapixel snapper.
The 3000 mah battery in Nokia 5 will be fortunately good enough to power the phone for a full day on a single charge even with heavy data usage.
Nokia 5 has an internal memory of 16 GB that can be expanded up to 256 GB with the help of an SD card and runs on Android 7.1.1 (Nougat). The phone is available in Tempered Blue, Silver, Matte Black and Copper colors.
